Meta Ads Cleaner: every feature, explained
Meta Ads Cleaner (listed on the Chrome Web Store as Meta Ads Enhancements Disabler) is a free Chrome extension that shows which Advantage+ enhancements and other AI defaults are switched on for the Meta ad you are editing, and turns them off: one ad at a time, one category at a time, or across all drafts in a campaign.
Updated 2 October 2026, version 4.9.42. Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers.
The widget on the ad page
When you open an ad in Meta Ads Manager, a small card appears in the corner of the page. It answers two questions without opening anything: what is switched on for this ad, and are these numbers current.
| Part | What it shows or does |
|---|---|
| Context row | Which ad the numbers belong to ("Ad ···1234", the last four digits of the ad ID, or "N ads selected" when you edit several) and their state: Updating… right after you switch to another ad, Updated for a few seconds once the new ad has been read, then Live. While it says Updating, the old count is hidden and the list is greyed out, so you never act on the previous ad's numbers. Hover Live to see when the ad was last checked; it is re-checked every few seconds. |
| Counter | How many enhancements are still on, for example "2 enhancements on — click Disable to fix 2", or "page is clean". |
| Disable | Turns off every enhancement on the open ad that is ticked in Filters and not locked. |
| On this ad | The name of each enhancement that is on (Promotions, Music, Enhance CTA, Branding and so on). Click one to turn off only that one. Tags explain the edge cases: collapsed means Meta reports it as on but the switch is inside a closed card; off in filters means you excluded it in Filters; a lock means it is locked for this account. |
| Disable on drafts | Starts bulk mode from the page. The first tap shows how many drafts will be edited ("Tap again — 3 drafts"); a second tap within four seconds starts it. |
| Auto-clean Related media | When on, deletes the Related media Meta adds to the ad as you edit. |
| Undo last, Stop, progress | Undo appears after a run; Stop and a progress bar appear while a run is going. |
| Status dot | Green: nothing on. Yellow: some turned off, some still on. Red: enhancements found, none turned off yet. Grey: no run yet. |
The × button shrinks the card to a pill that still shows the count and turns into a check mark when the ad is clean. You can drag it anywhere, snap it to any of the four corners with the pin button, and it fades while you type in Ads Manager. It can be switched off entirely in Account → Advanced → Floating widget on page.
Popup: Home
Click the extension icon in the browser toolbar.
- Master switch in the header turns the whole extension on or off.
- Currently enabled: how many enhancements are on in the open ad, with the same On this ad list as the widget. Clicking an item turns off just that one; if Meta's page refuses the click, the extension scrolls to the switch so you can flip it yourself.
- Disable Enhancements runs on the open ad.
- Preview is a dry run: it lists what would be turned off ("Would disable N enhancements") and lets you confirm with "Disable these" or close without changing anything.
- Undo: after a run a bar shows how many enhancements were turned off and offers Undo for 60 seconds. It switches the same enhancements back on.
- Pause for 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 1 hour, and Resume. While paused, nothing is turned off, including by auto-run.
- Auto-clean Related media, also available here.
Filters: choose what gets turned off
Filters lists every category the extension knows (the 70 enhancements plus Related media), in collapsible groups: Creative, Ad content, Creative setup, Essential enhancements, Delivery, Targeting, AI and new, Essential checkboxes, Campaign and AI categories. Untick a category and Disable, bulk and auto-run all leave it alone.
- Search box, Select all, Clear all, Reset to defaults.
- Out of the box everything is ticked except seven delivery and targeting settings that change who sees the ad or how budget is spent: Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ placements, Advantage+ shopping, Advantage+ catalog, Advantage+ campaign budget, Detailed targeting expansion and Conversions API enhanced match. These are marked as risky and are off unless you tick them.
- Save the current selection as a preset from the preset menu; if you change a loaded preset the tab offers Update, Save as new or Reset.
Bulk: clean every draft in a campaign
Bulk mode works in Meta's ad editor, where the sidebar lists the ads of the campaign. It opens each ad in turn, turns off its enhancements and saves, then moves to the next. A typical use: duplicate a campaign, then clean all the new drafts in one run.
- Scope: Drafts (default, the safest: only unpublished ads) or Selected (the ads you selected in Ads Manager). If no draft is detected, it does nothing.
- Hard limit from Meta's own header: when the editor says "Your edits will apply to N ads", the extension never shows or processes more than N.
- Preview and Test on 1 ad before the real run; Stop at any time.
- Exclude from bulk: skip ads whose ad, ad set or campaign name contains a text, or matches a
/regular expression/. - Auto-publish after each ad is off by default. Without it, changes stay in your drafts and nothing goes live until you publish.
- One Undo covers the whole run. The result reads "Bulk done: N disabled across X/Y ads".
Step-by-step: how to turn off enhancements on many Meta ads at once.
Account: locks, presets, bindings
- Locked categories: lock a category for one ad account, or for all accounts, and it is never turned off there, by hand, in bulk or by auto-run. Useful when one client wants Music on and another does not. To lock one, open the popup, find it under Home → On this ad and click the 🔓 next to it.
- My presets: named sets of Filters (name up to 32 characters, optional note). Create, rename, duplicate, delete, export to a JSON file and import on another computer.
- Account bindings: attach a preset to an ad account and it loads automatically when you open that account.
- Copy settings between accounts, with a confirm tap before it overwrites.
- Appearance: Light (default), Dark or Auto, which follows the system.
- Advanced: Auto-disable while editing, Floating widget on page, Extension enabled, Uncheck preselected Duplicate dialog recommendations.
- New toggles Meta added: when Meta ships a switch the extension does not know yet, it is listed here (and, once it has been seen a few times, announced with a notification) so you can copy it and report it. It is collected locally; nothing is sent.
Stats and activity log
For the last 7, 30 or 90 days or all time: enhancements disabled, ads cleaned, average per ad, bulk runs, a daily activity chart and the five categories turned off most often. The activity log lists recent runs and can be cleared.
Automatic modes
- Auto-disable while editing (on by default): when an ad editor is open, the extension turns off enhancement switches that are already visible on the page. It never opens Edit panels or sub-dialogs by itself; that only happens when you click Disable or run bulk.
- Uncheck preselected Duplicate dialog recommendations (on by default): when you duplicate a campaign, ad set or ad, it unticks "Select all recommendations" and the boxes under it, the step that otherwise re-enables enhancements on the copy.
- Auto-clean Related media (off by default): deletes Related media as Meta adds it. Works while auto-disable is on.
Keyboard and toolbar badge
- Ctrl+Shift+D (⌘⇧D on Mac) turns off all enhancements on the current Ads Manager tab without opening the popup.
- In the popup: R run, B bulk, U undo, P pause 15 minutes, / search, 1–5 switch tabs, Esc close the preview.
- The toolbar icon shows how many enhancements are still on: orange for 1 to 5, red above 5, hidden when the ad is clean.
What it will not do
- It never touches the "Ad includes media created or edited with AI" checkbox. That is a legal disclosure, not an enhancement.
- It never clicks Publish, Review or Apply on your campaign. It saves only inside the small dialogs that hold enhancement switches. The single exception is Auto-publish in Bulk, which you switch on yourself.
- Bulk edits drafts only unless you choose Selected, and never more ads than Meta's own "Your edits will apply to N ads" header.
- Targeting, placement and budget automation are not touched unless you tick them in Filters.
- Locked categories and categories unticked in Filters are left alone everywhere.
Privacy
No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no network requests. The extension reads the Ads Manager page in your browser and stores its settings, presets, locks and history in your browser's extension storage. Permissions: storage, activeTab, scripting, notifications. Details in the privacy policy.
Where it works
Meta Ads Manager and the Business Suite ad editor, including Meta's regional domains. It recognises Meta's interface in English, Russian and Ukrainian. The extension's own interface is in English.
Questions
How do I see which Advantage+ enhancements are on for a Meta ad?
Open the ad in the editor. The widget's counter and On this ad list name every enhancement still on; the context row confirms which ad they belong to and whether they are Live. Without the extension you have to open each card; see how to check which enhancements are on.
Can I keep some enhancements on?
Yes: untick them in Filters, or lock them per account.
Will it change ads that are already running?
Only if you open a live ad yourself and click Disable, or run bulk with the Selected scope on live ads. Bulk defaults to drafts, and nothing is published unless you enable Auto-publish.
What happens when Meta adds a new enhancement?
It appears under Account → New toggles Meta added, and support for it is added in an update.
